The supermassive black hole at the center of the Milky Way – Sagittarius A* (Sgr A*), as astronomers call it – is a well-known source of radio waves, X-rays and gamma rays. In a seemingly totally unpredictable way, it emits flashes that researchers have become accustomed to recording. Flashes tens to hundreds of times “brighter” than its basic radiation.
